These birds were all photographed by Tom Tams during March this year at North Shields fish quay  Tyne and Wear. He would like some assistance to try to identify both these birds.

Please click here to email me and I will pass your comments on to Tom.

The first bird has been called a Glaucous x Herring Hybrid and a pale extreme of either argenteus or argentatus. Are there plumage characteristics which would support any of these conclusions?

1st_winter_Htbrid_tt_march01_nsfq.jpg (16017 bytes)Glaucous x Herring hybrid or an extreme example of argenteus or argentatus?

The second bird is a herring gull type but is it possible from these photographs to suggest a particular race?

1st winter tt march01 nsfq(2).jpg (379161 bytes) Can this Herring Gull be assigned to a race.?

1st winter tt march01 nsfq.jpg (332542 bytes) This is another view of the bird above.

I will publish the results of the response in due course.
