Great Black-backed Gull ? - Tynemouth January 1998
This gull was in heavily worn plumage which to me appears entirely consistent with Great Black-backed Gull in first winter plumage. Very close views showed that the back and mantle feathers were juvenile with the white scalloped edges worn away. The rump and tail pattern were also consistent with Great Black-backed Gull. The apparently adult bill is totally at odds with the rest of the plumage.
